Report: Moldova ready to get Russian gas bypassing Ukraine

CHISINAU, Dec 12 (PRIME) -- Moldova can and is ready to receive Russian natural gas bypassing Ukraine, Vadim Ceban, CEO of local gas company Moldovagaz, said on Thursday in an interview to online newswire Eurasia.Expert.

“We have a long-term contract with Gazprom, we have a resource capable of delivering gas to Moldova from any point. This gas is cheaper for the country as it consumers more gas in the winter period from December through February. Taking into account possible difficulties with transit of gas through Ukraine…Moldovagaz and Gazprom are working on the possibility of including additional receiving points for gas consumers in the Republic of Moldova into the contract,” Ceban said as quoted by the newswire.

It is cheaper for Moldova to get Russian gas than buying it at the exchanges and hubs and paying more for transportation. “Today, the position of Moldovagaz is that we are ready to buy gas at any point in Europe, including through alternative routes, reverse supplies through the trans-Balkan corridor, through the TurkStream, which is technologically possible,” he said.
